Landscaping Woes? How To Make Your Lawn Beautiful

Blog

When you enter your yard, are you forlorn about what you see? Or maybe you have tried to do your own landscaping, but it just looks lost and wrong? You are not alone. Landscaping is an art form, and like all art forms, it requires skill, talent and patience. Here are some tips to help you make your lawn beautiful.

Hire a Landscape Design Service

You have heard of architects for home design and interior designers for interior decorating. Landscape design services are very similar, with the one major difference that the designers are designing your yard. You hire a landscape designer, tell him/her what you are looking for, then sit back and wait for some designs to come through. The designer will return to show you a few mock-ups of different designs for your yard. You choose what you like best, and then the designer will either work to make it happen or sell you the design to use in conjunction with your own landscaper.

Think Symmetry

Landscape designers are all about symmetry, unless the clients request asymmetry or their yards are oddly-shaped. That said, if you put one bush in front of your house, you should put two to make things appear balanced. If you put flowers along one side of the house, you should put flowers on the opposite side of the house. If your property is currently landscaped in a lopsided manner, try balancing it out by placing the same flowers, plants and trees on the opposite side of the house or yard.

Less Green, More Color

Green is a pretty color, but your grass should be providing it. Add more color here and there. Even putting yellow daffodils around the base of a tree makes a big difference because it breaks up the sea of green in front of your eyes.

Using garden statues, bird baths and fountains also helps break up the green. Nestle them in between colorful flowers and shrubs, or center them in the heart of your yard. Keep your garden decor in the same decorative genre (i.e., Roman or Greek statues only, Modernist or Cubist only, etc.). Too much eclectic stuff just clutters up the yard and makes it look like a kid designed it.

Admire Your Handiwork

Your landscape designer, should you hire one, will also make sure you have places of comfort in your yard. You cannot enjoy the beauty of it if you do not have some place to sit and/or relax. A garden bistro set, a gazebo or a hammock swinging gently in the breeze is ideal.

Beautiful Landscaping Can Transform the Look of Any Home

When my husband and I bought our house years ago, we thought it would be our "starter" home and we would move in a few years. We soon had two children, and we then decided against moving since we live in a great school district and we love our neighbors. However, I was growing very tired of the appearance of our home. We painted it a different color, and it still seemed like the "same old house" that we were tired of. We finally deciding that maybe good landscaping would "do the trick" and make our home more enjoyable to use again. We were right, and I now love our home! I now love spending time in our yard and just enjoying the scenery. I have such a passion for landscaping now I decided to create a blog about it. I plan to share many landscaping tips, so come back!
