Questions You Should Ask Before You Plant A Garden

Blog

Putting together your yard can be a fun experience and there are many people who look forward to landscaping their yard. However, if you don't put in the proper amount of planning and organizing, the plants could easily die and whittle because they were not planted correctly. Here are some things that you need to think about before you start planting your garden and flowerbeds.

How Much Shade and Sun Will They Get?

Before you plant anything, you have to think about the sun. Depending on where the flowerbeds are, there is a good chance that they are being shaded by your house at least part of the day. Or there might be other areas that are away from any trees or structures and so they get sun all day. Each plant needs a different amount of sun. If you try to plant a tulip in a place that is shaded all day, it will ruin it. Conversely, if you plant a bleeding heart in a place that is never shaded, it will shrivel and die in the heat. This is why you should map out what areas get sun, and for how long each day, and then choose your plants accordingly.

How Much Water Do They Need?

Irrigation is an important part of planting your garden. It is very important that you think out irrigation before you create the flowerbeds. It will be harder to add a sprinkler system to the house after the fact, so put down sprinklers, then lay the dirt and plant the flowers. In some areas, you will easily be able to create a drip line that can give water in small amounts to the plants so that they don't drown. But if the plants are in the area of the lawn sprinklers, they might get a lot more water. For some plants, they can get plenty of water and be fine. But for succulents, you will drown them.

What Is Your Climate?

Lastly, you have to consider the climate that you are in. If you are in a hot, dry desert, you need to think of other plants and shrubs that you would use, compared to if you live in the Midwest where it rains a lot and is very humid. If you don't consider this before purchasing and planting, you could spend all this money on your plants, only to regret it later.

As you can see there are many questions to ask before you plant your gardens to ensure that your plants thrive. For more information on what to plant in your garden and how to care for it, check out a company like Kauai Nursery & Landscaping Inc.

Beautiful Landscaping Can Transform the Look of Any Home

When my husband and I bought our house years ago, we thought it would be our "starter" home and we would move in a few years. We soon had two children, and we then decided against moving since we live in a great school district and we love our neighbors. However, I was growing very tired of the appearance of our home. We painted it a different color, and it still seemed like the "same old house" that we were tired of. We finally deciding that maybe good landscaping would "do the trick" and make our home more enjoyable to use again. We were right, and I now love our home! I now love spending time in our yard and just enjoying the scenery. I have such a passion for landscaping now I decided to create a blog about it. I plan to share many landscaping tips, so come back!
