3 Tips For Growing Grass In A Big Yard

Blog

A lush, green lawn is something that many homeowners desire. Not only does a well manicured lawn increase curb appeal, it can also encourage homeowners to enjoy their outdoor space on a regular basis. While a great lawn has many advantages, it can also take a lot of time and effort to both maintain and to grow. Homeowners with large lawns may find the task of getting grass to grow overwhelming. Here are three tips for growing grass in a large yard.

Consider Hydroseeding

For homeowners who do not have a lot of grass on their property, hydroseeding may be the right choice. Hydroseeding involves using a hose to spray a mix of grass seeds, mulch, fertilizer, and water onto the soil. It's a great way to seed large areas and can be done quickly. These lawns typically begin sprouting within five to seven days. Hydroseeding also works well for yards that are sloped or uneven. The average cost of hydroseeding is $7,840 per acre. It's one of the more affordable options for growing grass on large lawns.

Invest In A Riding Lawn mower

Taking care of a large lawn can also be a big challenge. For acres of land, a push lawnmower isn't going to be a good option. Homeowners with large lawns should consider investing in a high quality riding lawn mower. Riding lawn mowers cost between $1,000 and $3,000 on average. While that may seem like a lot, they can save homeowners hours when it comes to lawn maintenance. It's also important to keep the grass healthy when it comes to large lawns. While mowing the grass really short may save time, it can lead to bare spots and dead grass. Mowing more frequently with a sharp lawn mower blade is the best way to keep a large lawn looking great. The key is to keep the grass blades taller, which will require more frequent mowing.

Consider Embracing Weeds

Weeds are a major issue for many homeowners. They can be unsightly, especially for smaller lawns. However, homeowners with large lawns may want to reconsider weeds. They are often less noticeable in large lawns and often stay green for much of the year. Getting rid of weeds can cost hundreds of dollars in addition to hours of work. Since weeds often blend in well in large yards, it may be a better idea to let them grow.

A big yard can be a hassle for many homeowners. However, there are a few things that can be done in order to ensure a lush lawn throughout a large yard. Hydroseeding is a great way to seed a large area and is less costly than sod. For homeowners with large yards, a riding lawnmower is essential for maintenance. Homeowners should also consider embracing weeds since it can be costly and time consuming to remove them from large yards.

Beautiful Landscaping Can Transform the Look of Any Home

When my husband and I bought our house years ago, we thought it would be our "starter" home and we would move in a few years. We soon had two children, and we then decided against moving since we live in a great school district and we love our neighbors. However, I was growing very tired of the appearance of our home. We painted it a different color, and it still seemed like the "same old house" that we were tired of. We finally deciding that maybe good landscaping would "do the trick" and make our home more enjoyable to use again. We were right, and I now love our home! I now love spending time in our yard and just enjoying the scenery. I have such a passion for landscaping now I decided to create a blog about it. I plan to share many landscaping tips, so come back!
