Mulch is beneficial because it blocks the sun from weeds, so you won't have to worry about weeds growing in your flower bed. When placing the rocks, pull them a few inches away from each plant so rain can get to them.

Use Them as an Edging
Landscaping rocks can also be used as an edging around flower gardens. Edging is beneficial because it prevents grass and weeds from growing into your flower garden. The rocks also will make your flower garden look even more beautiful than it already does.
Dig a trench around your flower garden and then place landscaping fabric in the trench and lay the rocks on the fabric. The landscaping fabric will prevent the rocks from sinking into the soil. They will then stay in place for a very long time. When my husband and I bought our house years ago, we thought it would be our "starter" home and we would move in a few years. We soon had two children, and we then decided against moving since we live in a great school district and we love our neighbors. However, I was growing very tired of the appearance of our home. We painted it a different color, and it still seemed like the "same old house" that we were tired of. We finally deciding that maybe good landscaping would "do the trick" and make our home more enjoyable to use again. We were right, and I now love our home!
