Recommendations To Order And Install Landscape Gravel

Blog

The landscaping in your yard is an important detail for the aesthetics of your property and also for erosion control of the soil. When you are planning a landscaping project, especially with rock, you can use a variety of materials to improve the soil and also create the proper grading and ground cover for a mixture of landscape and hardscape. Here are some helpful tips to guide you through the planning process of ordering the right materials for your rock landscaping project and installing it successfully.

Evaluate Your Project Size

When you are planning a new rock covering for an area of your property, it is important to order the right amount the first time around. If you order too much rock, you will be left with an abundance of rock that you can either set aside or use in another area or add to your existing project for an extra-deep foundation. But if you don't order enough, you will be left with bare spots in your rock ground covering site where wind and rain erosion will continue, weeds will grow, and it will look unattractive.

Determine how much you need for your project with some basic calculations. Determine the depth of the rock that you want to be installed over the area, such as three inches or six inches in depth. Then, calculate the dimensions of the length and the width to find the total square footage. Keep in mind you will need to use these measurements of the area and the depth and convert it to square yards for the order, and there are nine square feet in a square yard.

Look at Preparation Materials

Before you can receive your delivery of landscape rock, make sure that you have the site all ready for its delivery and installation. It is best if the landscape delivery service can deposit the load right onto the site, so take steps to get it ready for the rock. This means you should remove any vegetation and weeds from the area, and also any large rocks and other debris that may be there. Smooth and level the site and excavate any existing soil to make space for the gravel layer.

And if you plan to install a landscape barrier of fabric or weed barrier, apply this and secure it in place with the appropriate landscape stakes well before the delivery. Make sure to overlap the edges of the landscape fabric with one another to protect the gravel from soil coming up along with weeds.

Beautiful Landscaping Can Transform the Look of Any Home

When my husband and I bought our house years ago, we thought it would be our "starter" home and we would move in a few years. We soon had two children, and we then decided against moving since we live in a great school district and we love our neighbors. However, I was growing very tired of the appearance of our home. We painted it a different color, and it still seemed like the "same old house" that we were tired of. We finally deciding that maybe good landscaping would "do the trick" and make our home more enjoyable to use again. We were right, and I now love our home! I now love spending time in our yard and just enjoying the scenery. I have such a passion for landscaping now I decided to create a blog about it. I plan to share many landscaping tips, so come back!
